“Creare con il cuore, costruire con la mente”: è questa l’idea alla base di “Making Room: Housing for a changing America- The Open House”, l’esposizione in svolgimento da novembre 2017 a settembre 2018 presso il National Building Museum di Washington D.C., realizzata in collaborazione con Citizens Housing and Planning Council.
Si tratta di una iniziativa che richiama un grande pubblico e che vuole stimolare architetti e interior designer, sempre più spesso in conflitto con un mercato immobiliare non in linea con l’evoluzione degli stili di vita di famiglie varie e in crescita e che, pertanto, necessitano di abitazioni moderne e versatili, anche in spazi ristretti.
La sfida insita nella mostra del National Building Museum consiste proprio nell’esplorare queste nuove tipologie residenziali attraverso il cuore dell’esposizione, The Open House, un appartamento “flessibile” di 1000 piedi quadrati (circa 90 mq) progettato dall’architetto italiano Pierluigi Colombo di Clei. Qui, a rotazione, si alternano tre diversi scenari residenziali che rispondono alle situazioni abitative più comuni: coinquilini (roommates), famiglie allargate (extended family) e anziani (senior). Grazie a un layout molto efficiente, con pareti mobili e arredamenti multifunzionali, The Open House dimostra come sia possibile anche in pochi metri quadrati soddisfare le esigenze delle famiglie odierne.
Una sfida interessante che ha coinvolto anche i fornitori e Ceramics of Italy che, forte dell’esclusività della ceramica italiana, ha giocato un ruolo primario attraverso prodotti eclettici e attuali, adatti a soddisfare le esigenze d’oltreoceano.
Ceramiche Caesar ha accolto con grande entusiasmo l’iniziativa, fornendo per la pavimentazione di parti comuni dell’appartamento le piastrelle in grès porcellanato della collezione One. Calda, naturale ed elegante, One rappresenta la perfetta sintesi di tradizione e modernità, dove i toni delicati e avvolgenti della terracotta si combinano alla contemporaneità del cemento, offrendo un risultato di grande appeal per ogni tipo di arredo.
Il formato 60×60 cm nella colorazione Ground ha caratterizzato i pavimenti degli spazi comuni dell’appartamento come l’ingresso, la cucina, la lavanderia e il bagno, e, con il suo stile vintage, ha saputo trasformare lo scorrere del tempo in una narrazione di se stessi e della propria storia.

This event, arousing great interest, has the purpose of stimulating architects and interior designers that are often in conflict with a housing market that is not in line with the evolution of different family lifestyles that need more modern and versatile homes, also in small spaces.
The challenge within the National Building Museum exhibition consists in exploring new housing options by means of the centerpiece of the exhibition, The Open House, a “flexible” 1000 square foot (approximately 90 m2) apartment designed by the Italian architect Pierluigi Colombo of Clei. In The Open House, three different scenarios alternate. Each scenario meets the requirements of the most common household situations: roommates, extended family and empty nesters. Thanks to a particularly efficient layout, with movable walls and multifunctional furniture, The Open House shows how it is possible to live in a small space and fulfil the needs of today’s families.
An interesting challenge that has also involved suppliers and Ceramics of Italy that has played a leading role with its eclectic and contemporary products that have all the exclusive features of Italian ceramics and the capacity to meet with the requirements of overseas users.

The 60×60 cm size in the Ground colour characterises the floors of the common areas of the apartment, namely the hall, the kitchen, the laundry and the bathroom. Thanks to its vintage appeal, it expresses the passing of time in a story about ourselves and its history.
